Kendall Jackson Grand Reserve Chardonnay 2007

If you have to pick just one word to describe Kendall Jackson wines, that word is exquisite; and Kendall-Jackson’s 2007 Grand Reserve Chardonnay is no exception. It is elegant and tropical, with hints of lemon oil essence, key lime and yellow grapefruit. Kendall-Jackson made the 2007 Grand Reserve Chardonnay with notes of ripe pineapple and mango laced throughout. This gracefully balanced Chardonnay is lushly layered with a firm acidity, enchanting creamy texture and a finish that lingers on and on.

Top Washington State Wines

Washington State is the second largest wine producer in the country. With over 650 wineries, Washington produces 20 million gallons of wine per year. Wow! Washington Wines are also major players in the international wine community. Washington first became well known for their domination in Merlot, but now they have a variety of stand-outs across the board – Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Riesling and Chardonnay.

Nine Washington State Wines top the list, including two Cabernet Sauvignon selections. The following is an abbreviated of that list. I picked two staples first; a Chardonnay and a Merlot, followed by a Riesling and a Syrah.

* L’Ecole 41 Chardonnay 2007

This Chardonnay mingles apple, pear and melon aromas, and it’s a crisp, bull-bodied white wine.

* 2006 Columbia Crest Grand Estates Merlot

This is a full finish – well balanced Merlot at a great price.

* Columbia Crest Grand Estates Merlot 2006

This is a beautifully balanced off-dry Riesling.

* Hogue Genesis Syrah 2006

This Syrah is a delicate blend of cherry, mint, and clove, and has a full rich finish.

Red is preferred – full-bodied and dark. If it really is worth the money I *may* be willing to spend $1-15 more. More than one suggestion is appreciated, as are reviews.
Hogue 2003 Genesis Cabernet Sauvignon This is a spicy wine with anise, clove and coffee bean accenting its bright fresh cherry and raspberry fruit flavors. It is a rich, full-bodied, expressive wine that still shows some finesse with fine, almost powdery tannins and well-integrated oak. Tobacco and black pepper linger on the finish. Pair this wine with grilled tri-tip steak, aged cheeses or dark chocolate. ($13.99) De Martino 2005 Organic Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are blended with Malbec and Carmenère grapes to produce a deep red wine with violet hues and an intense aroma of blackberry, cherries and truffle. Great volume and cherry flavor. Aged in oak barrels for 12 months. Serve with pasta, red meat, and aged cheese. ($11.99)

I love a good wine review. I don’t like trying new wines unless I have some idea what to expect, that’s why I appreciate the opinions of true wine connoisseurs Charmina Smith, Food and Wine Editor of the Otaga Daily Times has reviewed six wines; a Pinot Gris, a Riesling, a Rose, and a few others. Bonné Reviews Txakoli

Txakoli, pronounced CHAC-o-lee, is a very unusual wine in my book. It’s dry, usually a white wine, high in acidity, but low in alcohol content. Wine Editor, Jon Bonné of The San Francisco Chronicle has just written a wonderful review on Txakoli, Basque wine Txakoli flirts with fame.

“Just a few years ago, Txakoli was an obscure curiosity. A straightforward wine, typically white and slightly fizzy, it was served in low tumblers, often poured from a great height,” says Bonné.

For me, being slightly bubbly is what makes this wine very unusual. It’s differently a stand out, but the slight spritz can make it a hit for some wine lovers and a miss for others.
