The manufacturer claims it can open up to 30 bottles on a single charge. A good feature for commercial use I suppose. What appeals to me is you take any traditional wine bottle, push the button and the wine opener does the rest. It’s as simple as that.

Wine Consumption Rising

With the economy still struggling along, you would think it would have a negative effect on wine consumption, but it doesn’t seem so. According to the Beverage Information Group’s recently released 2009 Wine Handbook, wine consumption in the U.S. rose 0.9 percent in 2008 to 294.7 million 9-liter cases. Although the growth rate of the wine industry has slowed, statistics show that 2009 is the 15th consecutive year of increase in U.S. wine consumption.

What is taking a hit in this economic downturn is imports. Consumption of imported wines dropped 1.8% while consumption of dometic wines rose 1.9%. Wine lovers are showing that they are more willing to be frugal by trading down in price when selecting their favorite wines, but they have not been willing to pull out of the wine market all together. The health benefits associated with the moderate consumpiton of wine, such as decreased risk of heart disease, cancer, and stroke are also noted as a key factors in the popularity and the increase in U.S. consumption of wine.

The 2009 Wine Handbook is the leading source of wine trends and consumption. The handbook also includes information on suppliers, advertising, consumer drinking preferences and much more. But since domestic wines are on the rise, it’s a good time to look at the expanding options out of Napa, Sonoma, and Mendocino through The Wine Lover’s Guide to Wine Country.

I love a good wine review. Bonné Reviews Txakoli

Txakoli, pronounced CHAC-o-lee, is a very unusual wine in my book. It’s dry, usually a white wine, high in acidity, but low in alcohol content. Wine Editor, Jon Bonné of The San Francisco Chronicle has just written a wonderful review on Txakoli, Basque wine Txakoli flirts with fame.

“Just a few years ago, Txakoli was an obscure curiosity. A straightforward wine, typically white and slightly fizzy, it was served in low tumblers, often poured from a great height,” says Bonné.

For me, being slightly bubbly is what makes this wine very unusual. It’s differently a stand out, but the slight spritz can make it a hit for some wine lovers and a miss for others.

Wine Cruises – Bon Voyage!

This is a great new idea; wine cruises on luxury liners.

Food & Wine Trails, based in Santa Rosa, California, has announced that it is planning 14 different wine cruises for 2010. These cruises, which will be voyages in the Mediterranean and to Australia and New Zealand, will take place on three luxury liners: Celebrity, Regent and Oceania.

Because of the popularity of wine ever increasing among consumers, the wine cruises are a perfect companion for travelers who are wine connoisseurs and would like to experience a luxury vacation while sampling some of the finest wines in the world. The cruises, which will each have a different winery or wineries as a sponsor, will include 300 to 400 bottles from those wineries for the guests to try and enjoy.
